Northwest Harris County Aggie Moms

www.nwhcaggiemoms.org

Come as a guest, leave as a member.

If you’re related to an Aggie Student, in Galveston or College Station, you owe it to her or him to join us and find out what “it” is all about. If you don’t’ yet have a college student, our monthly speakers can help you learn what A & M has to offer.  Our meetings are every second Tuesday at 7 pm at the Houston Distributing Center located at 7100 High Life Drive & Cutten Road ( just before Cutten meets SH249).

Aggie Moms make finals week survivable with Care Packages

Aggie Moms know how lonely finals can make a student feel so each semester Aggie Mom clubs hand out Care Package to Aggie students Last fall, clubs from clubs from across the state distributed to well over 2500 students and our club gave out 300.  Our spring package is a handy A & M string backpack filled with a variety of snacks, a gift card, and a scantron. Any parent with an Aggie is invited to purchase one.  We notify your student that a Care Package is waiting for them and we distribute to Galveston and College Station students!!    Include your Aggie student in this spring tradition by ordering their Care Package today for $20 and we’ll give them a hug from you for luck!  To order contact: clubpres2012@gmail.com.

Aggie Moms give scholarships to Aggie Students

Our organization gives 40% of our funds in scholarships. This year, our club is awarding over $16,000 in scholarships to 15 active students from our service areas. Application details are on our web site.  April is our scholarship award meeting and you’re invited to congratulate the winners and hear testimonial from past recipients.  Giving is what Aggie Moms are about.

Aggie Moms support on campus, student run organizations

Our organization gives 60% of our funds to support organizations such as Car Pool, a safe, no questions asked, ride home program, initiated by a student in 1997.  To date this program has provided over 200,000 rides home to students and non-students.  Colleges across the country are duplicating this innovative, lifesaving program.  There are over 800 student organizations on campus. Our donations are member directed and last year we donated $13,000 to 83 different organizations.

Aggie Moms have two awesome parties a year

Although you can donate via our web site any day of the year, we also hold two fundraising parties.  In the fall, we host a delightful China Luncheon at which no two tables are ever the same and the goal is to have the tallest centerpiece.  In the spring, we have a good, old fashion barn dance and bar-b-q with entertainment provided by an up and coming recording artist who is also, of course, an Aggie.

Eagle Scout Project

Blake Alen, 16, a sophomore at Jersey Village High School was searching for his Eagle Scout project.  He came up with the idea of repairing the 22 year old falcon mascot, which had been affected by years of exposure and damage from Hurricane Ike.  Learning that the falcon could not be repaired, Blake contacted Seppo Aarnos, the original sculptor from Dallas. The original falcon was installed in 1989 in memory of Ronnie D. Truitt, a former coach who served as Jersey Village principal from 1976-1988.    With the help of JV High School principal, fellow scouts, peers, teachers, and businesses, Blake raised $16,000 for his project.  From Blake’s hard work, the 350 lb. sculpture has been now been installed with some assistance from his father, Steve, a professional welder.  Because of Blake’s efforts, generations of Jersey Village graduates will enjoy this beautiful falcon for years to come.  Thank you, Blake. Go Falcons!
